Writing is a great free hobby

Writing is practically free! If you’re reading this article, you’re likely either using your smartphone or your computer/laptop. If you own either of these things, or even just a pen and paper, you’re good to go. There’s no need to break the bank on a fancy Moleskin notepad, just use your notes app or Google Docs. You’ll find tonnes of free resources online to help with creative writing, journaling, and blogging.

Reading is a completely free hobby to try

Reading is a brilliant hobby to have and is totally free. If you have access to a library, you’ll find hundreds of thousands of new worlds to explore, facts to find out, and inspirational stories to devour. Many libraries also have apps now that allow you to take out eBooks and audiobooks, as well as allowing you to extend your loan period. The Kindle app is also free to download on your smartphone and there are plenty of free eBooks available through the app to download, including some of the classics. Occasionally, Amazon will also promote free books for a limited time as well, so it’s worth checking there.

Look into where you can get free and cheap eBooks and you’ll find that the world is your oyster!

Learning to sew is a cheap and practical hobby to get into

You don’t need to spend hundreds on a new sewing machine and bountiful amounts of fabric in order to start learning how to sew. Firstly, you can start with learning how to hand sew. Hand sewing kits are available so cheaply in lots of shops, as well as online. From there you open up other creative hobby opportunities, such as embarking on cross stitch and embroidery. You may find that you want to try your hand at garment making, in which case you can begin looking for a second-hand sewing machine.

Geocaching is a fun, adventurous hobby that gets you plenty of exercise

Geocaching is a free hobby that I personally adore. It’s especially great for those looking to spend more time outdoors, or for those who want to involve their children in their hobbies. Geocaching is a bit like going on a giant treasure hunt – all you do is download a geocaching app onto your phone – from there all the caches in your area and their clues will pop up. Caches are rated by difficulty and sometimes there are hints to go with the clues, so if you’re having difficulty finding one, keep going!

Baking is a delicious new hobby that the whole family will thank you for

Baking may not be free, but it definitely won’t break the bank either. The cost of baking ingredients is extremely cheap. Plus learning to create yummy new bakes is definitely a hobby that your fellow family and friends will thank you for.
