5 Simple Steps to Kickstart Your Morning Routine

At some point in our lives, we’ve all sat there and thought, “could I be doing something more productive that’ll help me reach my goals?” I know that I have certainly been there many times – feeling a bit lost in this big adventure we call ‘life’.

In my quest to become more productive and own my happiness, I started to assess my daily life and figure out where I could introduce small changes. My morning routine was seriously lacking in any structure, so I decided that kick-starting my new morning routine should be my first order of business when it came to becoming a happier, more successful person.

Why is having a morning routine important?

Maintaining a consistent morning routine is important because it sets the tone for the rest of our day and helps us work more efficiently. As we’re getting on with our routine as soon as we wake up, we can really maximise the time and create an efficient, beneficial routine suited to our individual goals, lifestyle, and personality.

There are a number of things that you can do as part of your routine. In this blog post, we’re going to talk about 5 self care morning routine ideas that are great to implement straight away. If you’re keen to sort your morning routine out and make it more productive and work for you, keep reading.

1. Keep your space clean and tidy

First thing’s first when it comes to kick starting your new morning routine – cleaning up your space. Making your bed, tidying away dirty/clean laundry and removing used cups and glasses from your bedroom is a great way to clear your space and your mind. Having a nice, clean space does wonders for your mental health and it only takes a few moments out of your day, so there’s no more excuse to leave it!

2. Start the day right by eating a healthy breakfast

The first thing you eat in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Breakfasts with a lot of protein and fiber can help keep your blood sugar levels balanced throughout the day, giving you more energy and decreasing your cravings for unhealthy snacks.

Healthy breakfasts help you feel better, lose weight, get healthier and increase concentration. There are so many delicious options to choose from that it is hard to make a bad decision when choosing what to eat in the morning. The best way to start off a healthy routine is by making sure that you make breakfast the most important meal of the day!

Creating your own healthy breakfasts at home is definitely cheaper, and in most cases, healthier, than eating fast food or convenience supermarket/coffee shop meals. If you find yourself grabbing breakfast on the go at your local Costa, you could switch this habit out and replace it with having your coffee and breakfast at home. This is not only healthier, but it’ll also save you time and money.

3. Achieve your daily physical activity goals – all before you leave the house!

Keeping an eye on your physical goals and activity during the day is something that many people neglect. Physical activity is vital for our health and wellness, so ensuring that we stay active, sleep well, and make healthy eating choices is a great way to stay on top of this aspect of life.

If you work in an office, it can be hard to get that physical activity in. You’re not doing a  lot of walking, and you probably often find yourself sat down looking at a screen all day. Creating time for exercise in your morning routine is a great way to ensure that you meet your physical activity goal for the day – all before you’ve even left the house.

There are loads of home workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own living room – you can even do them in your PJs! I find YouTube is a brilliant place to find free workouts for people with every level of fitness possible. There are short, 10 minute work outs, to hour long burn sessions, so finding a workout that suits your fitness levels and time limits should be relatively easy.

4. Start a journal

Journaling in the morning can be hugely beneficial. Your journal is a place for you to write as you see fit; it doesn’t have to be neat and tidy, it just needs to be able to hold your thoughts, your hopes, and your dreams.

Journaling in the morning is a great way to get your worries and thoughts out, as well as allowing you to set achievable goals for the day ahead and practice gratitude. Visualise the type of day you want to have, think about how you want to feel and what you’d like to achieve. Write down your manifestation and check in with your journal again at the end of the day.

5. Plan for the day ahead

A great tip I learnt recently is to plan your day ahead by breaking down your tasks into morning, afternoon, and evening. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but planning out the day ahead to include necessary tasks, physical activity, socialising, self care, and other areas of life you wish to focus on is an extremely good way of encouraging yourself to spend time doing the things you really want to do and need to do.
